The Reformed Church in Zlín

Established in Dec. 2000 as the first church of the Reformed Church denomination.

Zlín is located in southeast Czech Rep., in Moravia and is east of Brno.

The Reformed Church in Zlín started as a group of believers committed to the Reformed Faith and Presbyterian government.  In 1996 they contacted MTW to ask if the MTW team would be willing to help them organize into a local congregation.  MTW gladly entered into a working relationship with the group.  First a provisional presbytery* was formed and then the group was made a mission church of the presbytery.  In December 2000 two men, René Drápala and Mirek Štica, were ordained and installed as Ruling Elders of the Zlín Reformed Church.  This came after the men of the church were properly trained, and nominations and elections were held.

René Drápala serves as the the student pastor of this young church.  René is presently studying for an M. Div. degree through RTS and is taking classes through their extension program.  We are thankful that monies were given to our special MTW project to pay for René's education.

Note: A provisional presbytery is established in a foreign country where no indigenous Presbyterian and reformed denomination exist.  The provisional presbytery shall become a national church when there are at least three national teaching elders and three organized churches under its care.
