The prayer
of a righteous man is powerful and effective. ~James 5:16b
Who is a righteous man? Who is
a righteous woman? If this verse were referring to men and women who are
righteous in and of themselves, I’m afraid we’d have little reason to pray. As
I grow in faith, I see my sinfulness and depravity only more clearly, and were
it not for the righteousness of Christ imputed to me, I’m afraid that I, for
one, would despair of life itself. Yet, as we keep in mind what Christ did for
us on the cross, we have available to us a peace that passes understanding
because, in Christ, we have been reconciled so that we can rejoice along with
the Apostle Paul who, in response to his rhetorical question “Who will rescue me
from this body of death?” cries out: “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our
Lord.” (Romans 7:24b) So we can come to the Lord with humble boldness,
trusting Him to fulfill His purpose through prayer,, this most wonderful means
of grace.
Thanks for standing with us, and please
continue to pray for us this June.
1&2 Praise God for answered prayer for Beth Anderson, as
her gall bladder surgery was successful, and Beth has recovered well. Please
continue to pray for her as she has ongoing pain that does not seem to be
related to her gall bladder. Pray for wisdom for her doctors.
3&4 Pray for the Andersons as they are traveling back to
the States these two days. Pray for God’s mercy in granting them
strength, protection, and much joy as they celebrate the upcoming wedding of
their son Paul and his fiancée Ashley.
5&6 Praise the Lord for the wonderful fellowship the
Andersons and our pastor René Drápala enjoy with their English students in
Slavičín. Pray that the Lord might use these friendships to touch hearts
and minds and that this might, in time, lead to a Bible study and even a church.
7&8 Pray for our many Czech friends who have heard the
gospel, in some cases many times, and yet remain indifferent to this most
amazing message of hope. Pray especially for Alena and Hana, but for all
our friends who have no interest. Pray that God would touch their hearts and
minds to see their sin and their desperate need for Jesus Christ as Savior and
Lord.
9&10 Praise God for the effective ministry of the Christian
radio station which Sid was able to install in Kapchorwa, Uganda, a year ago.
11&12 Pray that the Lord would give Sid and Vlastimil wisdom,
safety, protection, and daily grace as they’ll be traveling to Uganda in August
to seek to increase the broadcasting range of this FM station. Pray for
Vlastimil’s salvation, that the Lord would use this experience and the testimony
of the Ugandan Christians to draw him into the kingdom. Pray also for
the medical work and the orphanages that Sid and his brothers have established
and supported. Pray that our Czech Christian friends might gain a heart for
this missionary endeavor and seek to support it.
13&14 Praise the Lord for the great interest shown in this
summer’s English camps. Praise God for the three teams who are working
so hard to lead these camps.
15&16 Pray for wisdom and for strength for the team leaders,
the speakers, the teachers, the activity leaders, and the helpers.
17&18 Praise God for the wonderful year at English Plus+ in
Zlín. The Lord has deepened our relationships in wonderful ways.
19&20 Pray that the Lord would pour out His Holy Spirit upon
our humble, yet eager efforts to see these dear friends come to know Jesus, our
closest and dearest friend.
21&22 Praise God for the faithful financial support for the
team here. Though the dollar has fallen dramatically in value, our support
accounts continue to remain strong. This is truly God’s mercy, as so many
missionaries are struggling desperately to make ends meet.
23&24 Pray for Paul Kooistra, director of Mission to the
World. He recently lost his wife after a long battle with cancer. She is now
at peace, but pray that the Lord would comfort and encourage this dear brother
with His presence.
25&26 Praise God for our families and for the wonderful support
they are to us even from across the ocean. Praise the Lord also
for healthy grandchildren and for the joy they bring to us as we watch them grow
and change (via Skype). Praise the Lord for the grace He provides to be
at peace even in the midst of feelings of separation.
27&28 Pray for our little Reformed Church our pastor,
our elders, our families, our children. Pray for the Lord to draw us
closer to one another and to Himself so that we would reflect Christ more
readily.
29&30 We praise God for the salvation we have in Christ and for the
understanding He has given us that our weaknesses and insufficiencies are His
opportunities to reveal His power and complete sufficiency so that any good that
comes about because of the work here would serve to glorify and honor Him.
